Med Cruise 2010 – First thoughts aboad Arcadia
Thursday 4th November 2010, At Sea
It’s sad innit when you wake up in the morning grab a cuppa tea and wander onto the balcony only to see another boat a few hundred yards away heading in the same direction.. Conversation continued about container ships and destinations.. their size, wondering what the crew were like, wondering what they carried, but that, apart from the calm sea, was about all to see!
Yesterday was a day of wandering around trying to get our bearings.. We had left Wendie druling on the dockside earlier as she dropped us off..
It didn’t take too long though to find out what was where, although we are getting a little mixed up with a couple of decks that contain the main entertainment areas…
We have been very good and used the stairs as much as possible and Vic guessed he did about 10 miles walking yesterday.. I told him a million times not to over exagerate!
I won’t bore you with too much on this first blog, but we are really enjoying ourselves after my rather unexcited mood before boarding.. I was worrying that the ship would be disappointing after reading a lot of negative reviews, but I shouldn’t have been worried, it seems to me P&O have got this about right.
The food is exceptional, 5 courses if you wish for dinner, and the breakfast menu was extensive. Plenty of places to eat for lunch, and for those who wish there is afternoon tea with sarnies and cakes.. not indulged in that…. YET!
The clocks have gone forward again, so our brains need to adjust. A fairly early night for us last night due to eating too much yesterday I think.. we just both wanted to lie down!
I was really surprised that I remained vertical through the Bay of Biscay, lots were horizontal… When I was younger and cruised with my folks I didn’t get past Fawley until I had to go to the Docs for a jab, I suppose 10 years living on a narrowboat on the canals of England has given me natural sea legs.. so no problem for me this time!
This morning’s highlight was a cookery demonstration by the top chefs aboard… What an eye opener that was, there are plenty of pictures in the gallery, but here is just one..
All fruit that is, beautifully carved in around 20 minutes.
OK I will leave you with that first report for now and catch up again tomorrow.. hummmmm cocktail of the day today is Mia Tai.. Dark and Light Rum, armaretto, orange juice and pineapple juice.. special offer of £2.75.. later, later, later I keep telling myself!
