No Problem at Aldreth but shorts are a no no
Lazy Otter to Aldreth, River Great Ouse, 6.25 miles 0 locks
Goodness another wet day to start this morning. The noise of the road was too much, so we pulled the pins and headed off with the canopy up today.
A very leisurely cruise for us, well we needed to run the engine for a couple of hours anyway to charge the batteries, so today there would be no traffic jams as we let the cruisers by where we could. It is quite a narrow part of the river from the junction of the River Cam all the way through to Earith where the river runs wide again.
The four dogs were soaking wet after their early morning run, and I even decided to wear my waterproof bottoms under the canopy as they kept brushing by all trying to get prime positions looking out over the side!

Look at that! Deserted moorings at Aldreth, and I had a plan B if these popular moorings were full! You can see that just after we arrived the rain stopped and the dogs well……..

Cor blimey, just wait for me to tie the ropes up please!
But they got their walk soon after, and off we went up the causeway and across the fens. The causeway crossing at the bridge just downstream from our mooring is quite famous. It is said that William the Conqueror went along this causeway and over the bridge to Ely to go into battle with Hereward the Wake..

More peaceful today I think!
I filled the rucksack full of apples from a tree that I know about.. tis not on private land by the way.. I shall use those soon to make the blackberry and apple jam for the families’ hampers at Christmas, just I need some blackberries now. Next week I guess the bumper crop will be just about ready.

Doh! Thanks Mr Farmer!
A couple of the apples had holes in, so I took them out of the bunch to make a crumble this evening, but sir wanted some blackberries to go with them.. OK so I went out in my shorts.. well I was hot having been walking earlier, and had changed.
Now I couldn’t be bothered to pull my jeans back on.. after all the bushes were only just back at the bridge.. Vic said “Don’t worry there is nobody about”.. well I looked a bit of a misfit in my walking socks and boots with a pink check shirt on and light blue shorts!.. And no you are not going to see a pic!
A boat came round the corner.. Oh no! I looked into fields as I walked the flood bank, and as it went by a wolf whistle and a “Woo Hoo!” Oh my god!! I could feel the heat in my face.. add that to the over all look!
I took no notice, maybe it was just a coincidence they whistled at me.. maybe it wasn’t me they were whistling at.. maybe there was some blonde beauty sunbathing in the nude on the other side of the river.. wait a sec.. the sun wasn’t out!
Ho hum!
