The delights of Water Newton
Alwalton to Wansford, River Nene, 3 miles 1 lock
We didn’t rush about this morning choosing to chop all the wood that we had collected recently and store it under the front cratch cover, and with that done it was back to using all those plums for more jam.. visitors to No Problem will no doubt be offered plum or plum and rum jam.. I gotta feeling I know which will go first!

Delightful this area as usual. This old mill has now been turned into houses, although the mill stream still dives under that building on the right which is now a house in it’s own right. The large left hand building has about 5 homes incorporated in it, the gardens of which are a delight even at this time of year..
Bollards not used by most in this lock, including me…

A lazy way of keeping the boat steady in the lock.. the brickwork has worn away where other boaters are just as lazy as me.. OK, so in future I will use the proper place just above on the lock.. the bollard! Just that I would have to stretch a bit to reach it!
This is the other side of the mill at Water Newton..

I never fail to photograph this place..

For sure to me it is the most picturesque lock on the whole of the waterways system anywhere.. unless someone knows better of course!
A reminder as we cruised along today that the summer is over for this year..

Although the conkers have yet to fall on the horse chestnuts even though the wind has been battering them the last few days.
We moored on the visitor moorings at Wansford Station to collect some groceries from Mr Tesco before moving under the railway bridge to the rough moorings on the meadow. Lucy and Meg love it here, but the rabbits do not like the extra exercise when the pair of them arrive!
I’m still not happy with where this blog is hosted, and am going to go back to hosting it myself. I won’t change over in a hurry, but will want to give all my readers a chance to remark their bookmarks before shutting off the blogspot url.. so please bookmark this link here as this is where you will find the blog in the future..
It is interesting to see so many bloggers on the Caldon Canal at the moment, there must be at least 6 of you wandering around bumping into one another.. you lot should have a blogger party!
