Weekend mania and Do BW have a plan?
Moored Calveley, Shropshire Union Canal
Hectic or what! I am shattered now… but what a wonderful weekend with all the family, thanks to you all xx
The town of my birth this is.. A good clue in the background!
We are on the move tomorrow after being a week here at Calveley. Meg visited the vet this afternoon on our way back from down south, her paw is being very stubborn at getting better.. still struggling with trying to get it to heal after her accident a couple of weeks ago
Just going to have to be patient and lots of visits to the vets to try and get it sorted. I could dress it myself, but I am going to leave it to the professionals just to make sure nothing goes wrong. It will be a visit every other day for a while at some vet or other while we are on the move.
I had an email from Will Chapman of Save Our Waterways showing me an email sent to him by one of the committee members from SOW explaining that although British Waterways SAY they are going to renew the facilities at Marsworth Junction it might not be the case.. reference my blog here..
It was pointed out:
QUOTE
none of the ‘promises’ in the BW response are written into the current
planning application(s) so it is just chaff dressed up to look like a
nice apple crumble. BW don’t have any planning approval to construct
alternative boaters facilities, nor is there any way to legally enforce
the preservation of any parts of the old yard based on the current planning
application. What people don’t seem to realise is that the outcome of the planning
application dictates what must happen; anything else can be and usually is
avoided. IF the current planning applications are allowed, then neither BW
or the developers are under ANY obligation to provide relocated facilities or
preserve any heritage, so no amount of bolting of stable doors will change anything.
As I understand it, the suggested site for the replacement boater facilities is
itself in a conservation area so you can assume that the chances of getting permission
granted are minimal if not zero.’END QUOTE
But BW say..
“British Waterways is committed to retaining and improving boaters’ facilities locally and we are currently developing proposals for a new facility at nearby Red Lion Bridge. These will include a new Elsan, water, rubbish and recycling station which will be available before the existing facilities closes down.”
This is what bothers me, the loss of those services. It is a long way and a load of locks either way to the next service blocks along the Grand Union Canal.
I’m gonna ask BW if they actually have planning permission, SOW say they haven’t.. perhaps we all ought to ask them that question, then maybe they may do something about it?
