A birdy treat before we leave Calveley
Calveley to Audlem, Shropshire Union Canal, 9.5 miles 2 locks
I wanted so much to pull that duvet over my head when I woke this morning.. what a shock to the system.. Brrrrrrrr!
Outside was a glorious sight, there was a huge flock of mistle thrushes in the bushes on the towpath all scrambling to take the last of the red berries from the hedge. I have never seen more than one or two at once before, what beautiful birds they are..
It was on Thursday of last week I saw another massive flock. This time it was starlings on the other side of the canal.. here are some of them on a tree..
They were feeding in the field opposite, those at the back of the flock constantly moving to the front as they fed causing a mexican wave type pattern across the grass, most amazing..
Having winded (turned) the other day we just had a short way to go to get back to the service block at Calveley..
We had been moored just beyond the bridge in the distance for all of last week. There are some 48 hour moorings there maintained by the Shropshire Union Society.. they do have quite a few on the Shroppie that they look after. In fact we moored just up from them where we were allowed to stay for 14 days which was very handy indeed. There is a bus stop just a couple of minutes away that runs every half hour to Nantwich, Crewe or Chester.
Topped up the larder and fridge…
Easy one for Mr Tesco to find.. then away to continue to Audlem. Gosh it was cold today, and I was finding it hard to keep my hands and feet warm.. only a couple of boats passed, I am not surprised!
We stopped short of Audlem locks on the embankment that overlooks the valley.. it’s raining hard now and very windy.. how much different weather can happen in any one day!
