British Waterways must be quaking as we visit Shrewsbury

Moored Market Drayton, Shropshire Union Canal

I had never been to Shrewsbury.. Got competely lost in the huge shopping mall.. but enjoyed a superb capachino and raspberry muffin on the high street eventually… Yum!

A day spare today, so we decided to explore…

006

A very swollen River Severn in full flow.. this bit is not navigable to us mere narrowboaters, but there is a boat under that bridge.. Welsh Bridge I believe.  There is another called English Bridge along with 4 others that cross the river in this town.

We’ll have to overstay here at Market Drayton while we wait to visit the vet with Meg again tomorrow.. It is very quiet, but I have phoned British Waterways to try to inform them… I am still waiting for them to phone me back.

I suppose they are more interested in what Gordon Brown has in mind for them.  But today they did hear that for now he won’t nick all the properties that BW own and sell them off.  I don’t know if I am pleased or not about that.  I am unsure that the moneys fetched in for that lot actually don’t go back out in investment and management of those, maybe topped up by our licence fees.  Seems when they sell some they buy more instead of propping up our waterway system with cash profits.

I read a report this morning, and as I see it Brown is thinking of bringing in the public sector to join BW.. not sure about that either, I’m on the fence ‘till I see more.  It all seems to be a bit of mess at the moment with BW.

OK, tomorrow is a big day.. Meg goes to the vet again to get her poorly paw sorted.. it’s been a month now, I am hoping she will be signed off ‘till her stitches come out, so all you readers before 2.30pm when you read this shout out loud “Good Luck Sue and Meg”… come on LOUDER!!
