A great day for not using a narrowboat…
Moored Wheaton Aston, Shropshire Union Canal
Mr Tesco was brilliant yesterday driving slithering down the gradient on the track alongside No Problem. We were going to move up to a gap where he would be parking but it was impossible, so he chucked it on his trolley and wheeled it along the towpath. Such a cheery chap, he made it. We now have a full supply of sustenance for a good while. Going back up the hill was a bit dodgy for him in reverse, but with a toot he’d made the top and off he went to his next customer.
A fabulous day saw us both walking far across the countryside here at Wheaton Aston. Lucy and Meg loving the snow of course, and underfoot the ground was lovely and hard. Vic hasn’t walked so far for ages, but he really enjoyed the crisp weather.
We were entertained this afternoon with the rare sight of a boat! Trying to get to the waterpoint without scraping the paint off the boat, the crew were determined to break the ice in front with a pole before proceeding inch by inch… I haven’t seen anybody go through ice like that before in a narrowboat.. still I have no doubt the paint on the boat was intact, and with nothing else to do I suppose spending an afternoon doing 50yds through ice like that is okish!
Thought we might go to Stafford tomorrow, the road seems OK, but it is very cold tonight. We’ll have to see what the ice has done by the morning I think.
