There’s a boat on the move at Wheaton Aston
Wheaton Aston to Hunting Bridge 7, Shropshire Union Canal, 4 miles 1 lock
And an opportunity to start my New Year’s Resolution which you can see on the left of the main blog page!
It was 40 days ago that we put the pins in at Wheaton Aston, the longest period that we have every stayed in one place in 8 years of continuous cruising. But then others will have similar claims as boats were truly iced in with no escape.
Water, diesel, coal, pumpout of the grey tank and gas all needed and picked up today. At least Wheaton Aston has the full works.. although we were lucky with the the pumpout, it had been out of action since before Christmas only being repaired yesterday.
Making our way south close to Brewood I could see a burnt out narrowboat.. I just had a feeling that I would know which boat it was…
My feelings were right, it was The Phyllis May. Terry Darlington’s narrowboat that was caught up in the fire that destroyed two other boats at Stone back in November.. what a sad sight..
Lucy and Meg ran the towpath today, happy dogs for sure bouncing along just as pleased as us I guess to be on the move again. Cold as it was, there were kingfishers whipping up and down the cut, their shrill calling our attention to their wonderful blue flight.
It’s so nice to be cruising again, all we need now is a few fallen trees to stack on the roof..
