It’s a bit wet around Seend

Bradford-on-Avon to Seend, Kennet & Avon Canal, 9.5 miles 6 locks

Some really cheap diesel at The Boatyard, 61.9 might even beat Norbury Junction and Turners Garage at Wheaton Aston on the Shroppie at the moment!

I spied it on the way towards Dundas, knowing I would stop on my way back.. Vic was well pleased with the price of the oil and filters too, in fact they had a good deal going for 5ltrs oil, oil filter, air filter and fuel filter for £30, but not wanting the latter two we just bought the first two…. oh well not quite, because we bought 2 lots of oil at a fabulous price.

Seend bottom lock was our target for the day on Tuesday, knowing that we would not move again until this morning.. How right we were, it didn’t stop tipping it down yesterday.. I felt so sorry for the hire boaters absolutely soaked as they passed us… I guess all private boats had stuck their pins in for the day like us!

Today after popping through a couple of locks and mooring opposite the Barge Inn, we took the little community bus that runs from here on a Thursday to Devizes for the day.. just once a week on market day.. well we had planned on climbing Caen Hill locks today but with a dot day yesterday that was not going to happen..

Lunch out was a treat for the grandchildren who are aboard at the moment, and once back it was time for Niamh to exercise some calories off…

Seend, Kennet & Avon Canal

Well not the whole roof got washed.. but there is a bit done!

Mr Tesco in the morning then to stock up for the weekend, then onward a bit.. in the sunshine I hope… Oh and PS, having put my links in for you I notice that Simon at Norbury Wharf Ltd has diesel today at 58.9!

“Cheapest red DIESEL (at a boatyard) in the country, currently 58.9 ppl (domestic rate). Subject to change without notice.”

Well done that boatyard!

Can understand you changing direction. The moorings before Bath have a dusty towpath and the ones before the locks are always full. Have you ever been to Bristol?
Last Saturday on Radio 4, the programme called Excess Baggage, Sandi Toksvig took the 49 bus from Swindon to Devizes, it was a journey nominated by a listener.
Did you walk up the hill to the village of Seend? Apparently it was in a tv programme about their lady vicar a few years ago. No never saw it.

Well Kate, to be honest we like to potter during the summer.. getting to ‘Do Bristol’ is something that wasn’t particularly on the list. The family are in the central south coast, so once away from Newbury, the nearest point to them on the K&A, we would be always going further away..

I didnt walk up the hill to Seend, but on the way to Devizes the other day when we were moored there we caught the bus that went up the hill.. Nice as it is, It certainly isn’t anything to write home about in my eyes.. ;-)
