It’s a ditch as we get nearer to Newbury

Kintbury to Newbury, Kennet & Avon Canal, 5 miles 7 locks

It was ditch crawling at it’s best today between Dreweat’s and Copse Locks, scraping the bottom all the way… The level was down by a good foot plus..

Kennet & Avon Canal

But before that we were treated to the sight of the horse drawn trip boat as it left Kintbury with a full load of customers.. It is a fine sight as horse power pulls the heavy widebeam..

Kntbury, Kennet & Avon Canal

He isn’t even breaking sweat unlike his human tender!  Nice pic this from Lou’s camera today.  We were hoping to do a pump out at Kintbury but that one is broken.. a sad repeat of many of the pump out services along this canal.. we have had quite a few visitors on board the last month, so decided to just make sure our black tank didn’t get full as it did at Pewsey, where the pump out there was also broken..

Oh yes, by the way I must quickly tell you about a site I found where you can apply for 50% off meals at selected eating places… some are 2 for 1.. well you can have a look for yourselves, but you have to be everso quick because the offer gives up tomorrow.. Friday!

Kennet & Avon Canal

One of seven locks today, and Vic is pondering about something while the lock empties.. we were lucky enough to have lock buddies from Kintbury to Newbury making light work of the trip..

West Mills, Newbury, Kennet & Avon Canal

West Mills for us tonight then for our mooring..thanks for the pic Lou. I like it here just to the west of Newbury Lock, it is handy for the town and not as hectic as mooring in the centre..

We have been out tonight for a meal at the Lock Stock & Barrel tonight overlooking Newbury Town Lock.. very nice it was too.  Bit more than we usually pay, but the tucker was pretty good!

Hi Sue, We are 2 ex live aboards,we went to France to look ! house prices so good we decided to buy and have lived in Brittany for 6yrs, our boat the Panacea was/is a 63ft beauty and not a day goes buy that we do’nt wonder where she is and how she’s doing. we were at first able to talk to a friend still aboard, but he seems to have disappeared, he always said the cut aint what it was,so we took a holiday on the french canals, far to organised no facilities and the only brits we met where drunk most of the time and not a good advert, thanks for listening .we miss the cut a lot ,bit like cigarettes ? love the blog, best wishes Norman et Leah

    Sue,

Well Vic is quite a character! ;-)

Yeah, I am sure we will cross paths at some point or other.. and a chat over a pint or three would be good! ;-)

    Norman and Leah,

I have seen a boat called Panacea, in fact we travelled the Nene with a boat of that name last year, it was blue and around the size you said.. We even met up with them again somewhere this year, can’t remember where though..

It is a pity how some brits seem to go to huge lengths when abroad to upset the locals.. ;-)
