Darn you Mr Tesco Grrrrrrrr
Moored Shropshire Union Canal.. ![]()
Mr Tesco has decided to change his website..”We have done it to make it easier for customers to put in their address”.. Eh???
Getting Mr Tesco to deliver to No Problem wherever she is has always been easy.. Find the local post code, type it in and hit the ‘if the address is not in the drop down list write it here’.. a box is there for you to do just that.. Not any more!
How on earth they can say that it is easier for customers I don’t know.. for sure it makes no difference whatsoever to those who live in bricks and mortar.
“When you have done your order phone us up and we will change the address.. you will need to put in a house number of the nearest place you are moored”
It was OK when I phoned before I ordered asking what to do as I couldn’t put in my address, but when I phoned the second time asking for the address to be changed I got someone who had no idea what I was talking about.. I had to go through all my account details before I could get to the problem
“You can change your addresses in your address book” “No, No, listen to me” Explaining about narrowboats and bridge numbers.. Too much for her.. so on hold for another 5 minutes.. I gave up, shut the phone off and went into Market Drayton for dog food!
So I have taken down the Tesco Delivery page and will replace it with an Asda one later!
Oh by the way I have sent them an email of complaint, doubt it will do any good though.. if others would like to do the same maybe, just maybe we can get it changed back.
By the way if anyone still wants to use Tesco and need to phone them for them to change the address, use this number 01382 822 800 (option 1) which is much cheaper to use than the 0845 number. Put it in your phone now, save you searching for this particular blog when you need it!!

Hi Sue,
Sorry to hear that Mr Tesco has caused you problems… I was incensed by their stupidity so I’ve been on their web site (https://www.tescohelp.com/tesco/forms/ghs_form.html) and sent them the following message…
” Please look at this blog… http://noproblem.org.uk/blog/2010/12/darn-you-mr-tesco-grrrrrrrr/ you really have upset Sue by changing your online ordering delivery address input format! Sue has been using and praising your service for a long while and advertising how good you were at delivering to narrowboat owners who are always on the move. No more though because of your web site change. It is vitally important to narrowboat owners, who are nearly always on the move except for when the canal is frozen, to be able to get regular supplies to their door just as much as it is for those who live in bricks & mortar. I do hope that you can ‘fix’ your web site so that Sue has one less thing to worry about this winter. You may not bulk deliver water and diesel, nor empty their toilet tank, but you are able to deliver all other essentials… well if you want to that is. Please see if you can help Sue and others like her by contacting her so that she can tell you what she needs as YOUR customer! ”
Sorry for sticking my oar in but the crass stupidity of Tesco in removing a perfectly useable function from their web orders page beggers belief and in your position stuck in the ice as you are, and a regular customer of theirs who has gone out of her way to support and promote their home delivery service, it just makes my blood boil…..
Best wishes,
Kevin

Sue
Have sent complaint and copy of blog. Be interesting to see if they care about ALL their customers enough and have the curtesy to reply.
Perhaps the comments to your post might also be read by them.

Asda? Oh no. We’ve had Asda deliver three times now. First time we had a delivery which was mixed with someone else’s, only half of it was ours. Secomd time was OK although much was substituted goods. Third time they were an hour and a quarter late, without a phone call or an apology, and then there were some more substituted goods. As you say… Grrrrrr! At least there are two others to choose from, Sainswotsit and Waitrocado. We’ve had the latter recently and they’ve been very good.
Best wishes to you both and have a great Christmas,
Kev and Lin (not currently aboard TQ)

Hi Sue – I’ve had 2 Tesco deliveries since they changed the site and both worked ok – I used a local premises from the drop down list – in both cases JD Services here at Gailey and then clicked on the ‘caravan or mobile home’ link and put the rest of the required info (i.e. NB RnR on the canal) in the delivery instruction box, and I always put in PLEASE RING ME BEFORE YOU ARRIVE AT THE DELIVERY POINT – they never do of course; only when they think they’ve arrived there!!

Hi Sue, Just been catching up on your blogs and see you have had quite an eventfut few months! Not too many expletives either!!
Oddly enough yesterday,we ordered a Tesco delivery for today and had quite some difficulty sorting the site out after three months. Hope we get all we asked for as the order is quite long!
Regarding phone calls refer to “saynoto0870″ type inTesco and every single stores number comes up with many freephone numbers.
No mention of ice today are you clear?
Must say it has been a darned sight warmer in Portugal!!

Our ranking would be Ocado, Sainsbugs, Tecso. We don’t use Asda on principle because of WalMart’s labor policies.
The Sainsbury driver has always been the same one here, so he now comes straight to the car park nearest the boat and then rings so let us know he’s arrived.

Hi Sue,
Since my rant at Tesco last night I have received two ‘automated’ responses from them with a request to resubmit my email if their replies don’t hit the mark!
Well they don’t, no suprise there then!
So I’ve sent them the text again… wonder how many ‘automated’ responses of a bland nature I get this time?
Best wishes,
Kevin

Hi Sue,
Sorry but my original post to you seems to be ‘awaiting moderation’
and here’s me thinking I was moderate in all things, even when ranting…

Kevin (SprockyUK),
Firstly, I am sorry it got caught in the moderation queue, nothing to do with me, the software must have picked up something in your comment to catch it in the “is this spam” filter.. all comments on this blog are un moderated, I have a spam filter in place.
Many thanks for your support on this one. We are small fry in a huge corporate world, I wonder if we have a voice?
Try the email address to Sir on my latest blog, it might do better than a general one to CS
Les,
Nice to talk to you today via phone, you sound great!.. Many thanks for your efforts today and for providing the ideal email addy.. I do hope they change things, we will all have to wait and see..
Kevin & Lin,
Yeah well I have done an order from them this time, it remains to be seen what will happen tomorrow.. this is their one and only chance!
Carol & George,
Yes it can be done, but what worries me is that some of the drivers don’t look at the delivery instructions and will bang on the door of some poor person, then take the delivery away not finding us..
George Catling,
Yes there are many alternative numbers for them.. but the one I gave gets through to customer services. Don’t forget George that 0800 numbers on mobile phones cost far more than a ‘national’ 01 type number. Most boaters have mobiles.
I am sure you are sunning it out there.. we all seem to be managing with the conditions.. But this is England!
Bruce,
Yes there are some issues, but there are the same issues with all the rest of them too in one way or other. I don’t find that Sainsburys and Waitrose have the items that I want, and for sure I have always found their vegetables are always of poor quality compared to Tesco and Asda.

Derek,
Yeah I am sure that would work, I just worry that people’s houses are going to get knocked, that isn’t fair. Tesco should address this problem..
