A disappointing day out and bin or spread?

Moored Rugeley, Trent & Mersey Canal

I was really disappointed when we got to Ikea.. We had already missed the hourly bus from Walsall so had to taxi it there.

I haven’t been to an Ikea for quite a number of years, it certainly wasn’t the place I remembered back then.  This time all I saw was a load of tat to be honest.  The quality of their goods has gone down for sure, and there isn’t the Scandinavian feel about the place any more.

We didn’t stay too long, and waited for the bus to take us back to town at the temporary bus stop.  But it came into the car park, took a different route and, not passing the bus stop, went out again!

Oh do have a look at the ‘friendly bus’ —> here

Yeah, yeah, yeah.. A sofa on a bus I think not, it won’t go round the corner to get it on!

No worry, we walked to B&Q and had a browse while we waited for the next one.

So what do you do with your ash from the fire?  Maffi did an interesting post the other day about that to which I didn’t agree..

“..Stove ash is really no different to any other litter. It is a waste product of human life and should be disposed of properly as all other waste is disposed of. It’s quite simple you empty your ash pan into a bucket  and stand it on the bank and then when it has had more than enough time to cool it is emptied into a suitable bag then taken to the waste disposal area. A suitable bag is alwiz ‘andy coz ya gota ya fuel out  ov it. Spread out or piled up its’ not nice, bag it and bin it….”

Being a continuous cruiser I am sometimes not moored long enough to leave it in a bucket to cool, and in any case an ember can remain dormant for days and days before coming to life again.. Put that in a plastic bag and that could lead to disaster!

I did a bit of research this evening, and while wood ash is full of all good things for plants, coal ash is not, however the danger element of bagging it and chucking it in a refuse bin (yes it can go into landfill) is scary.

Soooooo what to do?  Maybe we should get our spades out and dig a hole?

But then that confuses me.. Hole = Landfill doesn’t it?.. But wait a minute, coal ash is not good for the ground!

My bloomin’ H key is not working properly.. I dropped a bit of wax on it and now have to really stamp it down.. I’ll have to sort that as well as working out what to do with my ash!

Bury it in a shallow grave every time. Hey, the canals were built on coal and ash so the addition of the tiny bit you produce is insignificant.

We have to be realistic, a small amount of ash disposed of carefully and with consideration is much more environmentally friendly than a house of carbon emissions.

Funny that Sue, my ‘G’ key fell of and now spends it time wedged under other keys.

Nev all of us l-a-bs use a couple of tonnes a year that is not insignificant.

If, for suposition sake, there was a £1000 fine for dumping ash then we would find another way, wouldn’t we?

Fill your (holed) pockets with it, which will keep your hands warm while you are out and about gradually leaking it in the style of the Great Escape.

For sure if there was a fine then we would have to do something different! For sure the canals were built on coat etc, but that is unburnt stuff.

Yes we do have to be realistic as Nev says, but continuous cruising does have some difficult choices, what to do with what?! BW come on give us a bin for ash then! Sally should be the one to help out.. (some will know why!) ;-)

Ben that is a brilliant idea.. maybe we sould do that with our buckets too!

I was wondering Maffi what that stood for.. “l-a-bs” I was trying to work it out and could only come up with one answer.. lazy-ars*d-bull errr.. shi…. No surely not!

It’s my H key giving me grief, and that is rigt next door to your G!

  6. Maffi Says:

You could assume almost anything but I thought it would have been easy to work out.
