Further than we wanted to after getting well stuck at Grove..

Kings Langley to Cassiobury Park, Grand Union Canal, 4 miles 8 locks

Few more boats about yesterday and it was just the first lock of the day that we actually shared one with another boater.. we would be stopping at the bridge at King’s Langley to meet Mr Tesco to top up on the larder and veg cupboard.

Grand Union Canal

Oooo Nessy in one of the large lakes in the area.. it really is quite nice around Kings Langley, and with it being school holidays there were plenty of families enjoying the lakes and their facilities..

Not far on from the picture above was this..

Gosh road improvements can cause all this?  What a blight on the lanscape, you wonder where all this is going to go, or maybe they will just have a new hill in these parts!

We wanted to stop at Grove Lane, so good walking in the area but when we pulled into a space close to the bridge we ran aground and somehow managed to get totally stuck for some reason.  It took an age to get away, and this morning both of us got out of bed extremely carefully, our muscles were not working properly with all the shoving and pushing we had to do!

Further along boats were moored bow to stern.. another community of boaters had set up camp, so we carried on through to Cassiobury Park..

Cassiobury Locks, Grand Union Canal

I had walked from Grove after boat polling NP away there, so an opportunity to get some pics of the boat on the go.. It did mean that I was on lock duty though!

Cassiobury Locks, Grand Union Canal

Brand new gates and paddle gear, a lovely job done too.  I guess they are leaving the oak to mature and bed in before painting them the traditional black and white.. Doesn’t make much difference to the weight though, they still need some shoving open and shut!

Cassiobury Park, Grand Union Canal

And so to Cassiobury Park, a lovely area of parkland and woods.  I cant remember what the sign said now, but it asks passers by to respect the way that this boater likes to live……. OK then….

We moored just before the next lock and Iron Bridge, I am really glad we did because this morning when I took the girls out below the lock are an awful lot of boats obviously there for the summer, the towpath is littered with what won’t fit on their boats, and noisy generators block the quietness of the area…

Cassiobury Park, Grand Union Canal

Here is our mooring for the weekend, very peaceful.  Just about the first time since Braunston that we dont have a train line or road within earshot!

Today we have been doing a bit more maintenance on the inside of NP, just renewing some woodwork that has done it’s time since the boat was built some seven years ago.. Oh and I been walking the girls as well through the lovely parkland!

Cassiobury Park, Grand Union Canal

There is plenty of wildlife where we are, this Mandarin Duck cruised by this morning and in the woodland beside the boat spring flowers give good cheer..

And of course, the ‘Hello it’s spring!’ flower was in abundance..

We have needed to call our engineer back to take a look at the gearbox, it is leaking oil.. How many times have I said that phrase over the last 4 years!

Nothing major, we will meet up with him early next week.. Clever lad knows what the problem is and put us at our ease!

Enough pictures for you Wendie dear?

Oh yes, and very stunning ones too! (see the nagging bares fruit… or in this case, flowers!)

    A quick happy birthday too Sylvia if I may? :o :o :o

Have a great weekend to you both xxx

    Glad you approve Wendie!

Yep, gonna enjoy the weekend here, as I type there is an owl very close to the boat making a hell of a racket.. Hope he finds his mate before moring!

Sue, Update for you on Fuel at Chas Harden boats, Shropshire Union Canal. See Jills’ post 10-04-2011 they are very rude and very reluctant to do anything other than 60-40, stating we are taking the P*** asking for 10-90 in the summer, two days of sun over the weekend! Summer, however they said they might consider 70-30 if pushed, who needs un-official tax collectors?

I have always had a leaking PRM gearbox. It leaks where the selector goes in on the LH side and the way to fix it is to renew the O ring – except that it will leak again in a very short time! Is that what your man says? We need to hear the details Sue! I also have a BMC engine and that leaks from every orifice, so there is more oil in the bilge than in the engine! But, they say it will last forever.

    Hi Sue,

Spotted NP1 in Worcester this week and took some photos :-)
Let me have an email address and I’ll send them to you if you like.

    Tom

Rats we must have just missed you! We have had to curtail our weekends boating to come home and get some antibiotics for Sue – her chest has just filled following a cold. We drove up to the bridge above the lock and iron bridge (bridge 168 I think but no Nicholsons to hand) but could not see you, just a few empty places

    Richard

  7. Pete Says:

we took a walk from bridgewater marina up to cassiobury park this afternoon, not sure we went far enough to pass you though :(

    Graham,

I have heard one or two of the boatyards are getting tetchy about boaters splits. Thanks for the report, I’ll mark that out as a 60/40 then.

    Ray,

Yes you have it, that is what he said. He is arriving this afternoon so I will talk to him about a possible ongoing problem with that bit. Thanks..

    Tom,

Well spotted then, because it is not named, or at least it wasnt when I saw it last. I would like to see the pics, I’ll drop you an email.. Many thanks

    Richard,

    Richard,

We are moored just up from Iron Bridge Lock.. round the corner a bit from where you looked probably! Sorry to hear that Sue is poorly, we might make Coy Carp this evening.. Ed Bowen is arriving at 1 o’clock, depends how long it takes him to fix the gearbox problem. Will let you know this afternoon whether we can make there for tonight, but will Sue be well enough?

    Pete,

We were above the next lock Pete in the middle of the Park.. sorry to have missed you, but we have had a lot of visitors over he weekend, it’s very busy here!
