Piling up at Bedwyn

Moored Bedwyn, Kennet & Avon Canal

How on earth did you get last night’s Wassat?…

Doug you were brilliant!  Also the proper name from Dave “Pandrol clip on the railway line”.  Well I don’t know what I have to do to beat you all!

Well we chose the Sunday roast option instead of going to Newbury Farmer’s Market.. It was a beautiful morning, crisp underfoot and a long walk for Vic and the girls before lunch.  There really is some delightful countryside around Bedwyn and so many walking alternatives.

It is quite muddy though along the paths, but not so much today after the hard frost of last night.  The ice is still on the canal this evening, but looking at the forecast it will be gone in a couple of days for sure..

It’s piling up on the visitor moorings.  No Problem is at the end just this side of the boat with the white canopy.  Boats are arriving from further along.. “I have moved here because it is too muddy down there”  I heard one say.  Luckily we have our back canopy up so no good for mooring alongside.

I know that is mean of me, but I think if I was hemmed in I would go mad, it’s bad enough having to stay put for so long.  Some people are happy in a Marina during the winter months like Bruce and Shelia, but it is not for me, I like to be on the move a bit.

OK, so here we go, let me try you with this Wassat? this evening..

Wassat? It’s on the boat!

Tomorrow I am off to London and the start of my Christmas when I meet Wendie and three of the grandchildren at Olympia for the Christmas Show Jumping.  Unfortunately Molly, my fourth grandchild, won’t be able to come as she gets an allergy around horses, but I have a nice surprise for her over the Christmas period instead!

  5. Son Tony Says:

I have no clue what it is. I would find it quite intrusive to have someone moored up alongside, uncomfortable even.

  6. Kevin Says:

Only people we’ve ever been moored up against were those on NP. I know what you mean! ;-)

  7. Neil Says:

Do those heavy stone trains still run on that railway lne, and do you find the noise intrusive?

We upset someone down at Bath as we didn’t want anyone to move alongside us. But we had planned a 6am start. We did it with friends once and he had a Lister engine and everytime he ran his engine we had to get off our boat as it shook ours. Then we found out that he had a gas leak, could have blown us both out of the water.

Poor Little Molly. You are a family of pony riders aren’t you she must feel left out.

    Merry Christmas to you all.

    Charlie,

    Well close!

    Kevin,

Yeah, works both ways you know?!

    Neil,

No not at all, we have got used to the trains, hardly notice them at all now. I am just glad it isn’t a noisy road!

    Kate,

Blimey that is extreme! I don’t mind rafting up sometimes when it is busy, but not for months on end!

    Furby,

She is OK, she is going to get a really good day out with me one to one. At her age she is brilliant at knowing she can’t see the ponies, she seems to accepted that. And a very happy Christmas to you Furbs from both of us.
