A trip to Reading on a very modern bus

Moored Kennet & Avon Canal

Well we still have plenty of water in the tank so we took ourselves off to Reading this morning.  There is a train station 5 minutes from the mooring, but we decided to take the bus.  I don’t mind  catching buses, in fact I quite enjoy roaming around the countryside normally passing through small villages.. But no villages today as our No.1 bus went the urban route straight to Reading..

Really modern this one, the service is from Newbury to Reading, has free WIFI and also it has audio telling you what the next bus stop is as well as a visual screen. Very comfortable. :)

We found the Weatherspoons, well I found it last night on Google Maps, it was right by the bus stop!  :-P

Time enough when we got back for me to take the girls out for a long walk around one of the larger lakes in this area.  The wind was cold though, cold enough to make my eyes water!

The Canal & River Trust is to be given a larger funding deal than was originally offered by the Government.  It is probably short of what they really need, but everybody is being squeezed at the moment, and I am sure they will be happy enough to run with that..

I don’t have any pictures from my camera today so I’ll give you a Wassat? this evening..

Wassat? – It’s not on the boat!

Since the new software update, blog reader Ian has reported that the links on the left hand side are showing at the bottom of the blog.  Is anyone else getting the same format?  If so could you comment below with your screen resolution and browser.. thanks

Everything is lines up nicely in the side bar. I use Safari on a iMac.

Looks very good here in Winnipeg. We use Firefox.

Is it the spindle that you fit a windlass on to raise a lock paddle or wind up a lift bridge?

All looks OK and ‘normal’ here in Derby using Winows XP Professional, Internet Explorer 8 Service Pack 3 with a Screen Size of 1280 x 768 pixels.

Having said that I don’t have much of a clue yet on the ‘Wassat?’ apart from it looks metalic and shiney… so it’s not one of them there square bollards…

It appears to be some type of ‘bolt’ holding down a spring like looking thingy, I can’t imagine it’s designed for a windlass to operate as it’s far too shiney and undamaged…

Je suppose que seront les points zéro pour moi alors!

I forgot to add that on an iPhone and an iPad the sidebar on your webpage is below and to the left if the main text area.

All looks OK and ‘normal’ here in Derby using Windows XP Home SP3, Google Chrome 16 and a bit zoomed to 207%, with a Screen Size of 1920 x 1080 pixels.

The wassat looks to be vertical and designed to take a windy thing so I’m guessing that it’s for powering a swing bridge.

    Hi Sue,

Have the same ‘problem’ when reading blog in RSS feed but connecting directly to blog all is as should be.

Windows XP, screen res: 1280 by 800, Firefox 10

Looks like the valve on the top of a gas bottle…chain under as it should be but polished??

    Hi Sue,

Everything works fine on Firefox, but on AOL the links are at the bottom. Have a great day, and yes that’s quite a modern bus. Mark

    Sue
it looks very like the pin that holds the chain that holds the swing bridges shut – if I’m right it’s the first one Ive got right!

    Phil

It looks like a half inch socket extension.

Links at the bottom on iPad

Many thanks for the replies about your browsers..

Mark, do AOL actually do their own browser? AOL have their own rules always have done. Try an update?

Ian, Good, glad that solved the problem

Mark and Kevin, well I squashed up my browser window and still the left column is showing. I’ll have a go at a hack to see if I can get that to work over the weekend and ask you to check.

Keith, The RSS feed will only show the blog post not the whole page, you need to go to the main page on your computer to see the full website.

Well done you all on your guesses, Mike and Roger, so close but not quite right, and Sprocky, you are right ziltch point pour vous! Jim, Quite correct, but wrong pic!
