Last day continuously moored and last Wassat? too!

Moored Woolhampton, Kennet & Avon Canal

Well tomorrow the above will change.  Not a lot, but it will change to show us actually moving.. Phew!

Spring is on it’s way and so are we after popping into Newbury this morning to pick up some needed supplies.  We can’t get Mr Tesco to deliver here, too far for him to wheel his truck to my galley window.  We will pick up at Aldermaston in a few days time.

We went out for a meal last night at the Rowbarge here at Woolhampton..

Not a bad meal for sure, but a bit pricey.  Well we didn’t really have anything on board fresh to eat, and after that lovely holiday I really didn’t feel like opening tins!  :-P

There is still no water here on the Kennet & Avon Canal, the river Kennet that we are on is very quiet indeed.  This is Woolhampton Lock, a notorious lock just before a major road swing bridge..

Woolhampton Lock, Kennet & Avon Canal

Normally you don’t leave this lock going downstream towards the Thames until the swing bridge just round the corner is open because there is usually a torrent of water coming out of the Kennet at the foot of the lock on the right, just under that bridge.  (Not today though! )  This sweeps you downstream, and it is a devil to get round the two sharp bends and through the swing bridge without touching anything!

Then it is a matter of trying to stop to pick up the crew once they have swung the bridge back.. as you try to pull in the side the stern end carries on down the river!.  The best way is to ram the stern into the side, hop off and wack the stern rope around something!

For sure I won’t have that problem tomorrow.  We do have to go up the lock first and onward about a mile to find the winding (turning) point before coming back down again as we are moored just east of Woolhampton facing west towards Newbury.

Oh will be nice to have something new to click my camera on!

OK, so tonight is the last of my Winter Wassat?, and I have picked out a really hard one for you.. Well I think it is hard, but maybe not you lot.  You have been pretty good at this..  ;)

So… Wassat?

wassat

This one is not on the boat!

Good luck with that, and I have prizes to give away afterwards to those that are the top three this winter.. The leaders are in the left hand side of the blog on the main page.

You know what?  I can’t wait for tomorrow, it’s like my life, as a continuous cruiser,  has been on hold for months.. tomorrow my life is gonna kick start again.. We’re off!  :)

Oh dear… the last Wassat of the winter and I’ve missed my chance.
Unfortunately I have only just got back from having my glasses repaired at Vision Express, blind as a bat without them, so no guess from me :???:
